How To Join

LIUNA Local 563 members work in the construction industry and earn family-supporting pay, good benefits, and the opportunity for advancement. To become a member in good standing of LIUNA Local 563 it is first necessary to secure employment as a laborer with a contractor that is signatory to a current LIUNA agreement. Many of the leading general and specialty contractors that perform laborers work are signed to LIUNA agreements. To view a list, go to www.mnlecet.org where you can search signatory contractors by name or type of work performed.

To find new construction job postings from Union Contractors visit LiUNA's website BuildTheNorth.com. Once you create a profile you will be able to apply to multiple open positions from one easily accessible account.

Once you have been hired with a union contractor, you can work for eight (8) days before contacting the union. At that time, a Business Representative will visit you on the job site to sign you up as a Local 563 member. All new members are signed up as a Level 1 Apprentice. The hourly rate under the Collective Bargaining Agreement for a Level 1 Apprentice is 80% of a Journeyworker. Apprentices are required to take the necessary training classes at the Laborers Training Center in Lino Lakes. Pay scales rise according to work and training hours until a member reaches full Journeyworker status.

Members must provide their own transportation, hard hats, protective footwear, etc. Monthly union meetings are held at the union hall to provide information and answer questions. Dues must be current to attend monthly membership meetings. Members in good standing are also free to use the facilities at the Laborers Training Center to make sure skills are up to date as long as they are current on their dues. Fringe benefits are paid by the employer towards pension and health/welfare benefits and are determined by the number of hours worked.
